Teaching Philosophy
I believe that studying piano should be both rigorous and rewarding. While technical proficiency is an essential part of piano study, it is ultimately a means to a greater goal: meaningful musical expression. My studio specializes in classical piano instruction for students pursuing advanced repertoire, examinations, competitions, auditions, and collegiate music study. Whether working toward these goals or returning to the piano as an adult, students are encouraged to develop not only as pianists, but as thoughtful and expressive musicians.
Individualized Instruction
No two students learn in exactly the same way. Lessons are tailored to each student's strengths, goals, and interests while maintaining a clear path toward technical and musical growth. Careful repertoire selection, thoughtful practice strategies, and regular feedback help students make consistent progress and develop greater independence in their learning.
Artistic and Technical Development
Technical skills provide the foundation for artistic freedom. Students work to build a secure technique while developing a deeper understanding of style, interpretation, tone production, and musical structure. Lessons emphasize not only how to play the notes, but how to communicate ideas and emotions through music.
High Standards in a Supportive Environment
Meaningful achievement requires discipline, patience, and consistent effort. I strive to create an environment that balances high expectations with encouragement, helping students develop confidence and resilience as they work toward their goals. Students are encouraged to take part in opportunities such as piano examinations, competitions, and our biannual studio recital, which provide valuable performance experience and support steady musical growth.
Beyond the Lesson
The study of music extends far beyond technical accomplishment or public performance. My hope is that students leave each lesson with greater curiosity, independence, and appreciation for the art of music. The skills developed through piano study—careful listening, thoughtful practice, self-discipline, and creative expression—can enrich a lifetime of musical engagement.
